I try to emphasise at every opportunity how important plain English is to the legal profession. I came across the this blog on The Law Society’s website with 5 great tips:
- plenty of short, informative, accurate headings
- sentences no more than 2 lines long – 26 words or less (my recommendation)
- writing the reader's language – for the reader to understand (know your audience)
- use a list format wherever possible – this summarises – very clearly – big chunks of text
- good punctuation – punctuation helps understanding. The precise
